Rider University’s Free Tuition Program for NJ Students

Earlier this week, Rider University announced that select New Jersey residents can attend the school for free. In an effort to counteract financial burdens and attract new students, the university is hoping to improve enrollment rates. Rider University’s free tuition program for NJ students is one of a few NJ state universities to roll out this new initiative. Other universities in New Jersey offering a similar programs includes Rutgers University, New Jersey City University, Stockton University, Saint Peter’s University, and more.

This new initiative is a strategic response to the university’s ongoing enrollment challenges and financial difficulties. By removing the cost for in-state students, Rider aims to not only boost enrollment rates but also relieve the financial pressure families face to send their kids to college. According to New Jersey Business Magazine, NJ has seen an almost 10% decrease in Undergraduate enrollment since 2018.

It’s important to note that although this is considered a “free tuition” program, it does not cover some student fees or room and board for students. On the flip side, university spokeswoman Rachel Stengel has said that if Rider students maintain the requirements for the program, they may be eligible to receive free tuition for multiple years. The university also offers a Books for Broncs program which offers free textbooks for some incoming students.
